I'm sad to write that my very first guitar teacher, Doug Moncrief, has passed.
I took guitar lessons from Doug for years. He was kind, patient, caring, and well-equipped to teach this aspiring young punk about guitar and a lot of other skills needed to be a practicing musician.
As an example, Doug would take me down to his workshop and teach me how to fix amps, read a schematic, and build equipment. "When your amp stops working on a gig, nobody is going to jump on stage and fix it for you." This was one of the reasons I went on to become an electrical engineer.
Doug also gave me a lot of perspective about the music industry and the people in it. He was endlessly empathetic without being naive. And yet he still maintained a childlike love for what he did. Truly inspiring.
Doug was the person many of us should try to be.
My deepest sympathy to Kathy and Katie.
